Illustration Series

Digitaal Opgroeien (Growing Up Digital ) is an initiative by Gemeente Amsterdam that helps children and young people grow up safely, consciously and confidently in an increasingly digital world. The platform provides parents, educators, youth workers and other professionals with practical tools, research-based information and educational resources on topics such as screen time, social media, AI, privacy and online behaviour. The information is designed to be accessible to a broad audience, including multilingual families and people with limited language skills or mild intellectual disabilities.
For this campaign, I created the complete illustration series, developing a visual language that makes complex digital topics approachable, engaging and easy to understand for different age groups and audiences. The illustrations are used throughout the platform, toolkits and communication materials to support learning and spark conversations about digital wellbeing.
The project was developed in collaboration with ScrollScrollScroll, led by Marcel Schouwenaar, together with Charissa Sloote and the Innovation team at Gemeente Amsterdam. Digitaal Opgroeien is an initiative of Gemeente Amsterdam, GGD Amsterdam, Gezonde School, and Ouder- en Kindteams Amsterdam, developed in collaboration with the Universiteit van Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Alongside the online platform, the campaign includes a range of printed materials designed for parents, educators and professionals. These include age-specific handouts with practical guidance, as well as posters and flyers in various formats for distribution in schools, health centres, libraries and other community spaces. I created the complete set of spot illustrations used across both the digital platform and all printed materials, helping to establish a clear, approachable and consistent visual language throughout the campaign.
