Illustration Series & Design
The second set of cards I illustrated for Fenix Museum is for “The Family of Migrants”, a photography exhibition full of powerful images about migration and belonging.
The cards are made for kids and their carers to look, talk, and imagine together. Each one brings out a feeling connected to migration. The words I illustrated were: greeting, courage, homesickness, hope, farewell, and home.
Het Imaginarium came up with prompts that invite visitors to act things out, come up with your own greetings, think about where people have come from, and reflect on what courage might look like. I really enjoyed making the illustrations for these cards. I tried to combine a bit of humour with empathy in how I drew the different feelings. I experimented a bit with my style. Some parts are drawn in my usual way, and others use textures or rasters to help bring coherence to the series. You can also see those rastered parts show up again on the back of the cards.
